A happy day!

So there are a million blog posts all over the place about the happiness and joy now that Obama is president elect. I share in the happiness and joy, though I don't have much eloquent to say on the topic.

This was our first presidential election on the West Coast, though, and I gotta say I love it out here. Back in 1996, when I was teaching, Ian stayed up all night to get me the election returns so that I'd have them to put up for my 7:30 a.m. class. (I taught U.S. Constitution.) This year, we waited until the West Coast polls were closed at 8 p.m., and knew the projected outcome in minutes. McCain was giving his concession speech shortly thereafter, and we were able to go shopping, knowing the results, before 9 p.m. It was craziness!

I'm also pretty happy that the whole coast went for Obama, as did Illinois. Missouri, my birth state, is still in the air (not sure why), though St. Louis was pretty solidly in favor of Obama. In fact, if you look at Missouri, you can tell where the major population centers are by the blue spots. :) So not too bad for the places I've lived. :)
