Making vampires

Sunday was the character creation session for my new Vampire game, even though three out of four characters had their characters built before we started. But the session was mainly devoted to establishing relationships between the characters and choosing Aspects (a la Spirit of the Century) for the characters.

This is a system that Jeremy implemented when he ran his Dragon Blooded game, and I decided to use for my game as well. In Jeremy's game, it was wonderful and led to all sorts of roleplaying and interaction based on things our characters had done as kids. I'm not sure if it is going to be quite as cool for my game. Some of the scenes were really awesome, but others felt a little bit forced. This might have been related to the fact that with only 4 players, and 3 scenes to cover, everyone HAD to pair up with each of the other characters. So the forced interaction between, say, the Gangrel and the Toreador didn't necessarily make as much sense as some of the other scenes (not that any of the pair-ups made a lot of sense, with a Brujah, a Gangrel, a Toreador, and a Tremere being the PCs). Somehow this seemed more logical in Jeremy's game, when we were often related by blood or marriage to the other PCs.

The next step for this game is for me to work on the NPCs, so that I can get "character" information to my volunteers. I've got a small group of players who couldn't play in the game, mostly due to time constraints, but also due to geography constraints, and they will be helping me by coming up with the downtime actions of their "characters." I say "characters" in quotes because these distance players will not have full control over the characters. I'll be voicing all of the NPCs during game sessions, but during the in-between times, I'll have the assistance of some veteran players and some newer players to help me flesh out what the world outside of the PCs and their immediate circle is doing.

Anyway, expect sporadic posts about this new game and how the rules variations we're using are going. The first play session isn't until January, though, so if you aren't into RPGs, you'll be spared until four weeks from now. :)

Yes, that's right, the ScaryWhiteGirl is headed back into a LARP, from the depths of which she is never likely to fully return... :)

Okay, so I will actually return from the LARP, but yay!squee!w00t!, I found us a LARP. Or six.

At the Abney Park show on Saturday night, I got many compliments on my goggles, which are a fabulous pair of Russian goggles that I picked up on eBay. They are simply lovely. :) But anyway, the first person to compliment me on my goggles was standing fairly nearby me, chatting with another girl who was going to the show, and though I wasn't trying to eavesdrop, once I heard the words "Vanish from the Mind's Eye," they had my undivided attention. As soon as they reached a lull in their conversation, I blurted out "LARP or table top?", to which they responded "LARP."

HURRAH! :) The conversation then sped up to a mile a minute as I started pulling details out of the both of them. As it turns out, Emerald City Chronicles is the Camarilla Vampire game under the umbrella of the Emerald Chronicles. Said umbrella keeps five different games out of the rain... and they're all old World of Darkness! HURRAH! :)

The sixth game, as mentioned above, is actually the guy's Firefly LARP, to which I was invited, but sadly had to decline. Jerome's work schedule is a little bit unstable at the moment (which may bode poorly for the Scion game), and I think it will make my life a whole lot easier if I only go to games that are in relatively close proximity to home. Yes, the buses go everywhere in this city, but I've heard that they are odd on the east side of Lake Washington, and, well, that's where said Firefly game plays.

The EC games, on the other hand, are at UW, which is not too far at all from where we live. And oh my. Are there ever games. From 6-9 p.m., there are three games to choose from: Sabbat, Mage, or Changeling. Trust me, that is not an easy decision for me. And from 10 p.m.-2 a.m., there are two games to choose from: Camarilla or Werewolf. Gah! Again!

Right now, I'm going with Changeling in the early slot, and Camarilla in the late slot. What I think I like most about this is that if I decide that one or the other (or both) aren't my style, I have a few other games to try out to see how they fit. But I think I'm gonna like the two that I chose. The Cam game STs have been very quick to respond to my questions, and that makes me a very happy camper.

More on this later, I'm sure. :)

I found a World of Darkness test. I turned up with equal scores (12) in Mage and Changeling. This doesn't surprise me in the slightest, honestly. :) The funny part was that I had a 6 for my Wraith score, a 1 for my Werewolf score, and a -3 for my Vampire score. I guess it is true that I live in the Shiny Happy World of Darkness... :)
