I'm not sure if I'm simply that unobservant, or what, but I've noticed that I can watch a movie several times, and still notice something new every time I watch it.

I suspect that I just overlook some of the details in movies that I don't watch intently and regularly. The movie that brought this to my attention was "V for Vendetta," which I ranted mightily about when it came out. Any rate, I got over my rant (sorta) and bought it on DVD, and we watch it occasionally.

Last night, I noticed that in the scene where V takes Evey up to the roof in the rain, it's interspersed with scenes of V coming out of the fire--so the moment of true freedom for both characters. Of course, what's also interesting about this is that he was freed by fire (both literally and metaphorically), while Evey was metaphorically released by the rain.

But the point is that I really didn't remember the scenes of V in the fire being interlaced into that scene. So it was really odd, and I sat there wondering if the scenes had just "appeared" (highly doubtful), or I had really missed them. I think I've settled on that I had forgotten they were there, because I didn't really find that scene all that interesting previously. Now, of course, I see the connections that the filmmakers were trying to draw in that scene, and I'm mildly impressed.

Jerome has a copy of the graphic novel checked out from the library right now, because he hasn't read it yet. It's due back to the library on Thursday, so I told him he should read it today, if he was going to read it. I think he will soon share in my general disdain for the adaptation of that graphic novel into movie format.

However, I think he'll still like the movie for what it is, and I have to admit that I have grown to appreciate the movie for what it is. But I maintain that it should have been called "Loosely Inspired by the Events Surrounding Alan Moore's V for Vendetta." That's a much more accurate title. :)

Gonna be a drought from me for a while, as I submitting NOTHING at all last week. I am a slacker. :)

In other news, I hate Chicago more now than ever before. Perhaps I can get an article out of that. :) Seriously, though, the list of problems we ran into was HUGE. Traffic, not enough time, getting stuck on a bus forever, and it taking 2 1/2 hours to get back to our hotel after the show. Oi.

If I get my way, I will never again set foot in that city.

Blogger was behaving oddly yesterday, and seems to still be acting up today. We'll see if this will actually post...

So, "V for Vendetta." Now Thor was kind enough to loan me the comic on Monday of last week, so that I could read it before we saw the movie on Friday. When I met him and my other friends at the theatre on Friday, I told him that I wasn't sure I was entirely happy that I had read it beforehand, because that meant I knew what was going on with some of the stuff in the preview already, and so it was kinda like a spoiler.

Then we watched the movie.

I can understand why Alan Moore refused to have his name associated with it. In my opinion, it would have much better been described as "very loosely based on the events of the comic book 'V for Vendetta'". Because the truth of the matter is that the plot was changed soooo much that there were a good many parts where I was going "did I miss something in the comic?"

It wasn't a bad movie, overall. It was just not anything like what I was anticipating. There were substantial enough changes to the characters that I was very weirded out, there were key characters that were simply dropped from the movie... all in all, just weird, comparatively speaking.

Of course, this makes me curious to go back and pick up "From Hell" and "LXG" in comic format, and see just how much those differed. Because I've heard that Alan Moore wasn't pleased with those interpretations either... and now, I think I can understand why that is likely to be.

So other than that, the only movie news I have to report is that I have "Legend" and "The Last Unicorn" winging their way to me, which makes me a very happy monkey. :)

And Bobert and I discovered that there is a movie coming out, I believe this fall, called "Marie-Antoinette." I am excited. :)

And Shawn is obsessed with "Snakes on a Plane." He's already making plans to see it... in AUGUST... though it is at a theatre that serves beer, so apparently that's part of the appeal... :)

Oh, music news too! :) I'm going to go see The Birthday Massacre in Chicago on April 1st! w00t! And Deadstar Assembly is one of the two opening bands, so I will get to see two bands I like for the low low price of $10, plus some gas money. This rocks. :)

I'm back. Didja miss me? :)

So let's cover the high points of the past week:
- Got to go to St. Louis to hear Shawn DJ. Much kewlness ensued.
- My nephew, Peter Benjamin, was born on Thursday. He's adorable.
- Got to hang out with my friends and watch "V for Vendetta." We'll save the details on the movie for tomorrow. :)
- Got to go to dinner with the girlies.
- Successfully made Jello shots, and people enjoyed them thoroughly... to the tune of all 58 of them disappearing within about 10 minutes of them landing on the table.
- Managed to get pretty much only as drunk as I needed to be, not too drunk, and not hungover, two nights in a row. :)

Yes, there were some low points, too, but a) who wants to hear about low points?, and b) the high points were really good!

So things seem to be simmering back to normal now; I work 4 days this week and 4 days next week. So the posting schedule should return to normal after tomorrow, since I'm gonna save my movie recaps for then. I don't have games to talk about tomorrow anyways, because there weren't any that I played in over the weekend.

In other news, I spent part of the past week thinking about what I'm doing with my life, and I came to the conclusion that I really really really need to write. If not write new stuff, I'm at least going to work on some of my old stuff. I want to get published on my own, dammit. So I'm gonna. :)
