Scary White Girl is moving!

Okay, I'm not moving personally. But my blog is moving. After some persistent problems with the blog over here, I've given up and decided to make the move over to Wordpress. I've had good luck with their services, and they make it pretty easy to import the twelve years worth of blog posts I've made here (give or take). So if you'd like to continue following my blog, please head over to http://scarywhitegirl.wordpress.com/. My goal is to post a little more often over there. :)

Ten Years of Blogging

My blog is ten years old today. My website is a bit older, because I bought my domain when I decided that having a website of my own was the way to go. I started blogging because a lot of my online friends were doing it. And though there have been plenty of breaks in that ten year span, I'm happy to say that my blog is still going strong.

It's amusing to look back at my old blog posts, and see how much I've grown from the person who started this blog. About half of the blog was written when I lived in Illinois, and the other half since I've moved to Seattle. There have been any number of hobbies and other craziness that has come and gone. But writing this today, I feel like I have a sense of direction that I was lacking ten years ago. I know I'm happier overall, but also busier and often more tired.

At any rate, here's to another ten years... probably more! I will always be the Scary White Girl. :)

This amuses me!

Because I'm an editor, I love stuff like this: The Typo Eradication Advancement League. You don't know how many times I go into a restaurant, look at a menu, and start spotting typos. Actually, this happens pretty much anywhere I go. It's just totally ingrained in my brain to spot errors. I suspect that I was actually like this before I became an editor, too, which may be what makes me a good editor--my brain is wired to find mistakes. :)

And I don't have End of the Work Week Wisdom for you. But if you read the above blog, I suspect you'll find all sorts of clever little things written there. It is truly a work of art, and I'm adding it to my list of blogs I read. :)

Random...

So it's been a slow day at work, though it will pick up this afternoon, at least a bit. And then I should have things to work on for a few more days. :)

But in my extreme boredom, I've been going through my old blog posts and adding tags. Back in the old days, when I started blogging (2002), we didn't have these fancy tags. So a lot of my old posts are without them. How many, you ask? Well, my blog has over 1,000 posts on it. I posted a lot in the early days...

While working through this, however, I was reminded of something Marlo asked me on Sunday: "What is it with you and fish?" She asked this because I made a linocut fish and then a crocheted fish in rapid succession. Now, granted, the crocheted fish was for a specific project. But the linocut was more of my choice.

So here's the deal with me and fish:

1) My birthday falls just a couple of days after the cusp between Pisces and Aries. I'm technically an Aries, but most people who know me would not guess that. I think I act quite a bit more like a Pisces. I always blamed this on being born so close to the cusp, but as I later found out, my complete astrological chart is FULL of stuff in Pisces. And for this reason or possibly a non-astrological one, I've just always had this weird connection with water and fish.

2) This is unusual because I don't like to eat fish, nor have I ever had a pet fish. Or, perhaps, it's because of my weird connection with fish that I don't like eating them and wouldn't keep one as a pet. :)

3) Fish is a part of a nonsensical back and forth that several of my friends and I used to do. It is:

"Butter?
Parkay?
Fish?
Quack."

Like I said, totally nonsensical. This was usually the sort of thing that we'd do when everyone was at a loss for words. This is actually pretty common among my friends in Carbondale. Other similar ways of saying everything while saying nothing were to say "Blue?" (usually when you couldn't/wouldn't answer a question) and "Monkey!" (which goes back further than C-dale, and is from a Space Ghost episode).

4) The character of Delirium in Sandman is given a demon at one point to help her find her missing dog, Barnabas. For whatever reason, the demon turns into a fish (I can't remember if he does this or if she turns him into a fish) on a leash. She then proudly proclaims "I am following my fish."

So there it is. Mostly, I, too, am following my fish. Which is either a major part of my existence or something nonsensical. Mostly, I think it's a little bit of each of those. :)

I'm featured in a blog today! :)

Yay, this is awesome! :) It's currently the first post here (Nov. 30th).

More later, after I'm more awake. :)

Ah yes...

Updates of randomness yet again.

1) Jerome is now an uncle! :) His niece, Autumn Faith, was born yesterday at some point... not really sure on when, because he either didn't get or couldn't remember the details. So no, I don't have any of those usual baby stats, nor have I seen a picture yet. Ah well, we'll see her in December. :) (He's not nearly as into this whole being an uncle thing as I was about being an aunt to my niece and nephew, but I suppose guys aren't normally into those things. :) )

2) I've decided that my attempt to label over 1,000 blog posts and then have all of those labels on the main page of my blog was both futile and silly. So I'll still label the new posts, and I may continue to label the old posts, but it's basically for my own organizational structure. Nothing useful, I'm afraid. :)

3) The people at the camera store across the street are going to know my name soon. I've had to run over there Friday, yesterday, and today (and have to run back later to pick up the last of the reprints). This is all work related, and time consuming. Which is better than being bored. :)

4) I have finally started making baby sized hats for my Etsy shop. You can see the first one that I've posted here, as well as in the picture with this post. They are too adorably cute, but I'm having difficulty getting pictures that show just how cute they are. I need to borrow someone's baby... but not one that is already famous, like Finn. :)

This post is partially a memo to self, but it also may help you find something neat that you're looking for--it's a few blogs and Etsy sites of some of my fellow Seattle-ites. :)

(Into) the Fray is Ambika's blog, and (Into) the Fray is also the name of her Etsy shop. Ambika makes beautiful jewelry with bold colors, and the cutest embellished hoodies. If I didn't already have like 5 hoodies, I would totally want one of hers. Perhaps I'll see if she would be willing to embellish my plain black one that I love so much. :)

World of Whimm is Kayce's blog, and World of Whimm is her Etsy shop. Kayce makes all kinds of cute stuff for little ones, including burp rags, quilts, and costumes. I totally want one of her fairy princess costumes in my size. :)

And finally, Wire Tree is Beth's blog, and Wire Tree is also her Etsy shop. Beth makes jewelry with gorgeous little wire spirals and beads, and she also takes some incredible photographs of nature. I can't pick just one picture that I love from her shop! :)

I'm sure there will be more posts like this as I discover more blogs of the ladies (and gentlemen) of EtsyRain, the Seattle Etsy Street Team.

Huh, it worked... rock on... :)
And wheeeeeeeeeee... :)

Sometimes I just feel the need to start off the day like that... :)

Though really, at the moment, this is simply a ploy to get my archives back up... we'll see if that works... (yeah right)... my archives are the hardest part of this blog to maintain, and I don't even have to do anything to maintain them, theoretically...

Okay, I'm done tweaking the colors... I promise... :)

So whaddya think? :)

Wednesday, July 17, 2002

I wonder if blogs are just getting so popular that everyone is starting to have problems with theirs? *sigh*... I guess there is such a thing as too much of a good thing... :)

Still a couple more hours of work today, and I really wish that wasn't the case... I've got some stuff I could be working on, but it's not very interesting... *sigh*...

Tuesday, July 16, 2002

This is mostly a test post, cuz I'm testing out a theory that I have...

We are a test post... there is nothing to see here... please move along... ;)

Dammit... is anyone other than Assie and I having trouble with publishing their page? Like getting error messages about their template not being found or something like that?

Time to go mess with my template, I think...

I was going to do the Friday Five this week, but I couldn't really come up with good answers for the questions. Ah well. There's always next week! :)

New on scarywhitegirl.net is The Old Man Speaks. Don't be surprised if he doesn't update it all that often... you know, he's old and cranky and such... ;) Basically, he saw how much fun I was having with my blog, and decided he wanted one too! :)

Three hours and twenty minutes left of work for today. Fridays always inch along... *sigh*...

Thursday, February 21, 2002

I knew I was going to like this. I've already completely reworked my main page, and I think it's going to stay this way for a while. The graphics I made were nifty and all, but I really like how streamlined this is. Now to fix the colors a little bit more, and then I think I'll be even happier with it.

And then time to actually find some things to write about... :)
