Oh wow...

Somehow I hadn't realized that I haven't posted here since JUNE! Remember what I said about being busy in July? :)

We spent the Fourth of July weekend in Portland, hanging out with friends who live there, and of course visiting Powells. The following week was taken up with a whole lot of me practicing with Throwing Goat, and then singing at their show. There's going to be YouTube footage of that, but I don't have it yet.

The week after the show was spent in Kansas City for work, which meant a trip to my sister's to see her, her husband, and her kids. I've been back since late Friday night, and keeping plenty busy with gaming and other geeky stuff, alongside moving hijinks.

That's right, I'm moving. Not far, mind you. I'm just moving about 5 miles away from my current apartment, to share Jeremy's apartment with him. Of course, this entails lots of cleaning, packing, and unpacking. We're basically figuring out how to get two apartments worth of stuff into one apartment, a storage unit, and a studio. The studio is for me, for all of my craft stuff, though I told Jeremy I will put a desk in there so he can write while I curse at my sewing machine a lot.

But my hope is that with a studio, I will actually be able to get more sewing done, and really get things on track with Counting Stars. I've had that shop for almost a year now, and sales have been almost non-existent. So I'm going to be working on posting more regularly, and improving my photos--another thing that the studio should be good for, since I will have the space to set up a photo box finally! :)

Movie review: Coraline

So as a HUGE Neil Gaiman fan, I'm always anxiously awaiting any new movies that he's involved in. And though Beowulf was somewhat disappointing and Stardust left me stomping my feet a bit, I can't complain too much. I feel pretty much the same about Coraline.

The movie is undeniably cute, between the stop motion and the overall cuteness of the story (despite it being a little scary in places, at least for little kids). I tried really hard not to squee too loud during the They Might Be Giants song, when Coraline's father's voice suddenly and unmistakably became that of John Linnell. :)

The big issue I had with it, unfortunately, was something that Thaddeus told me about on Sunday--they added a character to the story. Normally, no big deal. Until it has the effect of lessening the main character. :( I could go into a big huge rant here, too, about girl power and such, but I don't want to ruin the story too much for those who haven't read the book or seen the movie.

Oh yeah, which reminds me. Read the book. :) The movie is wonderful, but the book is equally so, if not better. I've only read it once, and it's been a little while since I read it, but I think that you'll find the book and movie are pretty wonderfully similar. Except for that extra character. *sigh*

Another Monday...

Actually, it's not so bad thus far. The machine in the lobby of the post office was running super slow this morning, so I just decided to go to the post office tonight. This works out okay, really, because I got another order this morning, and we should have Jerome's other sister's address by this evening, so I can send out their Christmas pressies at the same time.

Been actually working on a whole bunch of stuff at work this morning, and talking The Golden Compass on the Etsy forums and with a co-worker. Do note, I haven't finished reading the book yet (I'm about halfway done), and we haven't gone to see the movie yet. I'm hoping to finish the book before we see the movie. Really, this just involves making myself sit down without a crochet hook, because I can't read and crochet at the same time. :(

In other news, although I appreciate the fact that the ideas fairy has been bringing me plenty to fill my head, I might have to request that she takes a few weeks off, or starts sharing the love with some other people. I have at least two really cute ideas right now, and can't decide which to make first. (And never mind the fact that there's other stuff that I need to be working on!)

Oooh... I just found Poppy Z. Brite's webpage... sweet... :)

I think I'm gonna put up a library page in a bit here... books I've read recently, books I'm reading now, and books I've got on the "waiting list" to be read when I get to them... :) Yeah, definitely a good idea... :)
