Rock stars! :)

I'm taking a short lunch today, but as promised, here's the link to video of our performance. This is only the first verse and chorus, but you get to hear Jeremy sing in his girly voice, and that alone is worth the price of admission. :)

You Tube video

In other news, Jeremy taught me to tie a tie somewhat inadvertently. He tied mine for me so many times on Friday night while I watched in a mirror, that by Saturday night, I knew how to do it myself. :) Now, whether I could tie a tie on someone else is another matter entirely. :)

Survived the weekend, barely

So the show on Saturday went very well. I was a lot more comfortable on stage this time, and I think it showed. Jeremy was terrified, but he still did awesome. :) There is video with passable sound this time, and I'll link to it as soon as I find out where it's posted. :)

Sunday was my Vampire game, which went okay. Once again, it felt like it was all about one character, to the exclusion of the rest of them. We tried to get the other folks involved, but they weren't really going for it. Apparently I need to push harder. :)

However, I also had a pretty bad headache through most of Sunday, which got worse after the game, and then lingered into Monday. It was an odd one that I want to call a migraine, but I'm not quite sure what might have triggered it. At any rate, it wiped me out pretty soundly. So I spent part of Monday sleeping, and then the rest of the day relaxing in front of the TV with a stack of unfinished crochet projects. I've now finished a bunch of rose pins and, the most exciting item, my crocheted TARDIS. (You can see additional shots of it on my Facebook Fan Page.) I've already got the next one in the works, with a few design modifications based on what I learned from the first one. My prototype is waiting to see what fun destination it will fly off to, and I'm pretty sure I've got a few more people lined up to buy the first ones to arrive in my Etsy shop. :)

And we're back to Monday

It feels like I had a short weekend, which is odd. I had a somewhat busy weekend, but it had the right number of days in it.

I got back from my trip on Thursday, picked up my new glasses, and headed to a pizza party celebrating the release of Crossed Genres: Year One.

Friday, I headed to the office for what seemed like the first time in a million years, after coffee with my cousin who was in town for a conference. In between getting work done, I got notification that my first short story will appear in Crossed Genres on March 1st. YAY! :) And then after work we were off to practice with Throwing Goat... 5 more days to the show now!!!

Saturday was gaming and getting household chores done, because Sunday was the Mourning Market show, which basically had me out of the apartment for 8 1/2 hours. It was a good show for me, though, and my eyeball cat toys continue to be the most popular thing I have. I did have two people ask about arm warmers, but I've been so low on those since before Christmas, that I opted to not put them out this time. I guess I know what I need to work on now. :)

Oh wow...

Somehow I hadn't realized that I haven't posted here since JUNE! Remember what I said about being busy in July? :)

We spent the Fourth of July weekend in Portland, hanging out with friends who live there, and of course visiting Powells. The following week was taken up with a whole lot of me practicing with Throwing Goat, and then singing at their show. There's going to be YouTube footage of that, but I don't have it yet.

The week after the show was spent in Kansas City for work, which meant a trip to my sister's to see her, her husband, and her kids. I've been back since late Friday night, and keeping plenty busy with gaming and other geeky stuff, alongside moving hijinks.

That's right, I'm moving. Not far, mind you. I'm just moving about 5 miles away from my current apartment, to share Jeremy's apartment with him. Of course, this entails lots of cleaning, packing, and unpacking. We're basically figuring out how to get two apartments worth of stuff into one apartment, a storage unit, and a studio. The studio is for me, for all of my craft stuff, though I told Jeremy I will put a desk in there so he can write while I curse at my sewing machine a lot.

But my hope is that with a studio, I will actually be able to get more sewing done, and really get things on track with Counting Stars. I've had that shop for almost a year now, and sales have been almost non-existent. So I'm going to be working on posting more regularly, and improving my photos--another thing that the studio should be good for, since I will have the space to set up a photo box finally! :)

Just a singer in a rock and roll band...

All of those months of playing Rock Band 2 have apparently paid off. After some silliness on Facebook last Friday, I was asked if I wanted to sing Seether's version of "Careless Whisper" with a band called Throwing Goat at their next show. The band is a fixed group, and they get volunteer singers for each of the songs in their set. "Careless Whisper" was the one remaining song in the setlist, and since I know ALL the words to the song, the only thing I had to do was learn the new melody on the verses.

Oh, that and get over my intense fear of public performance. :)

The latter part is somewhat amusing. I did theater in high school and goofed around with it in college. I taught for 2 1/2 years while I got my master's degree. And I did a community theater show 4 years ago. But I am TERRIFIED of public performance. Even getting up to sing on Rock Band in front of my friends is nervewracking.

Needless to say, band practice last night was a bit terrifying. My supervisor at work (the one who roped me into all of this) is in the band, but she's out of town right now. I get along well with her husband, and practice was at their house, but I didn't know anyone else in the band till I was introduced to them last night. I dragged Jeremy along with me for moral support, of course, so there were two people there who I know.

The practice went relatively well. I know the song. That part was easy. But Jeremy told me afterwards that he could tell just how tense I was almost the whole time I was singing. I felt like I relaxed a bit after the first few run throughs, but I was still nervous. (I also had never used a mic that wasn't connected to a game system before last night. Apparently I was barely audible for most of the practice, till they told me that I really did have to be right on top of the mic.)

Now bear in mind, this was with 5 people I don't know. In July, I will be singing in front of a crowd of probably 100+ people. EEK!

Jeremy and I did come up with a plan, though, that involves me finally doing karaoke later this month. We may even go tomorrow night if we can get our errands done quickly. I don't know that it will necessarily make me more relaxed initially, but at least it will prove that I can sing in front of more people and not die from it. Beer may also help, but I'm not inclined toward that option.

Mostly, I think it's just practice, practice, practice, and hope that the stage fright thing gets a little better as time goes on.

Odd, but awesome...

So I woke up this morning with this really vague impression that I had heard something about a new Cure album. I wasn't entirely sure, however, if I had just dreamed it (entirely plausible) or if I had overheard it somewhere.

However, as it turns out, not a dream. It's real! :) The Cure is putting out their 13th album in September, and they've already started releasing singles from it! *happy dance*

In other news, I had a blast last night, as I somehow got tapped to sing while people played Rock Band. This was initially to do "Blitzkrieg Bop," but then it turned into a full time gig, as no one else really wanted the job. :) I guess I was better off doing the singing than the instruments, though, which were apparently complicated. I do have to say, though, that even with the lyrics and the relative pitch on the screen, I HATE singing songs that I don't know... and how is it that I don't have "I Think I'm Paranoid" by Garbage on my computer?!

And I rock at "Creep" by Radiohead. Yes, I know that song entirely too well. :)
