New music! Yay! :)

I sat down on Saturday night with my iTunes gift cards and a short list that I had made on my phone. I came away with:

To the Bottom of the Sea by Voltaire - This was dubbed as Voltaire's "steampunk" album. I'm not sure I'd use that term for all of the songs, but nonetheless, it's Voltaire, so I love it. :) I think I had only heard the first and last songs from this album--the last I heard live the last time I saw him, and the first I heard on a compilation album... which is probably the main reason I remembered I needed to pick this up still.

War Child - Heroes by various artists - This is an album of current musicians covering songs from the 70s, primarily (with a few outliers on either sides of that decade). The entire reason that I bought this album was for Lily Allen's cover of "Straight to Hell" (originally by The Clash). One night when driving back from band practice, Jeremy had played it for me on his phone, because I love Lily Allen. I didn't catch on at first (and he wasn't familiar with the original song), but once I realized what it was, I had a rabid need to own it. And now I do. :)

Shallow Life by Lacuna Coil - Because there are some bands who I will buy just about anything by. Still midway through my first listen to this one, and nothing has particularly jumped out at me, though I am enjoying the song currently playing, which iTunes tells me is "Wide Awake." And hopefully I'll have more to say about this album later.

This Addiction by Alkaline Trio - Yeah, I think I'll buy about anything they put out as well. I have only listened to small snippets of a few of the songs so far, and it sounds like pretty normal Alkaline Trio. Hurrah! :)

I also finally added Breedless by Ego Likeness to my computer and iPod, and listened to it first thing this morning. Again, nothing super jumped out at me on the first listen, but it all sounded wonderful and solid. I'm really hoping that they will get back out this way sometime soon so I can see them again! (Because they're one of those bands that I will try to see for sure, even in an era when I'm not really doing many concerts.)

Zzzzzzzz...

Getting up at 5:30 a.m. is no fun. But silly me got it into her head that there was no way to do all my normal morning stuff, get to the office to finish packing up equipment, and get over to the hotel where my traveling associate is staying by 7:30 if I got up at the usual time. *checks clock* Yeah, I'm ahead of schedule. :)

So I'm off to Port Angeles for the rest of the week, and I may update from time to time. I was hoping for good weather and lots of wonderful photos while I'm out there, but the forecast doesn't seem to be cooperating. I'll try not to freeze, instead. :)

And in musical news, if you haven't heard of Ego Likeness, you should check them out. And if they're coming through your town on their current tour (with Voltaire!), you should go see them. They are awesome rock gods. :) (If you're in Seattle, you missed them already. Twice this year, so far.)

No time for posts, Dr. Jones...

I've actually got stuff to work on at work today, so not a whole lot in the way of posting from me. However, I thought that I should show everybody the spiffy flyer for the show that I'm doing this Saturday. So come and buy stuff, if you're in the Seattle area. :)

I will probably only be there till about 4 p.m. or so, since we've got Scion on Saturday night. So come early if you want to see my stuff. I've got a bunch of crocheted hats and at least 10 of my bottle cap belts, some of which aren't listed on Etsy yet. Whatever doesn't sell will go up on Etsy next week, but if you want the first chance to get them, they are making their debut on Saturday! :)

Oddly enough, I think I'm all caught up with EVERYTHING in my life right now, which means that this evening will either be putzing around doing nothing, or perhaps a little more cleaning. I swear the living room is an ongoing cleaning challenge. It looks better than it did, but I don't think it will ever qualify as CLEAN. :)

++++

In other news, I think my iPod has gotten stuck on a Stolen Babies / Ego Likeness / Susie Suh loop. Not that I'm complaining, just an observation! :) (And I should point out that while I own 3 Ego Likeness CDs and some random other songs, I only have one album by Stolen Babies and a handful of Susie Suh songs...)

Crazy busy gaming weekend, involving three LARPs. This ended up equaling Jerome and I losing our characters (and making new ones), me becoming a Harpy again, and me becoming a Ductus through the cunning use of lies (not flags). But hey, no one has checked me yet to see if I'm a big liar. Because that character is. :)

It's a month to DragonCon now, and Abney Park and Ego Likeness are confirmed. This means I'm going to be seeing 3 of my favorite bands/artists in the world, along with 2 bands that I like quite a bit. I am happy. :)

With DragonCon a month away, this means I'm working on costumes like a madwoman. Right now, it looks like I'm doing four costumes and one other outfit over the course of three days.

Friday night, it'll be Death from Sandman. I had to find a new pair of black jeans, but I still had everything else I needed for that costume.

Saturday day, it'll be Kaylee from Firefly. I still need to find one or two patches for her jumpsuit, and make sure that I can do my hair in the little buns that she does in the pilot episode. And sew the patches on. And maybe find a necklace that looks good. Maybe.

Saturday night, it depends on who is playing. Most likely, though, this will just be the night that I goth out.

Sunday day, I think I'm going with Alice from America McGee's Alice, only because I already have every piece of that costume. :)

Sunday night, which is when I suspect AP will be playing, I will probably revive my Dark Green Fairy costume that I wore for their last show that I got to see, though it will be undergoing some serious modifications, mainly for the different season and climate. I want to try to make some yarn hair falls, but I'm not sure how feasible that will be. I need a different shirt, so I may go back to Goodwill to pick up something I saw on Saturday. And I really should rethink the stripey tights, because it's likely to be too hot for those... I'm definitely rethinking the armwarmers. :)

But yeah, that's gonna be a lot of clothes to pack, particularly as it involves a couple of large dresses/poofy skirts. The good news, of course, is that Jerome will prolly cram all of his stuff into one bag, leaving plenty of trunk space for Jesi and I. w00t! :)

::..::

In other news, you would think that putting three adults and two cats into a tiny two bedroom apartment would get a bit crowded, but we're making a pretty decent go of it. Still need another bookcase, but we're working on how we can get that... :)
