Random recap

In slightly geeky news (but I'm getting better!), we went through all of my White Wolf books last night and picked out a bunch to put up on Amazon, and others which will go on eBay later. If you're interested in this sort of stuff, drop me a comment or a line and I'll let you know where you can find this stuff.

In sports news (what?!), I'm a little disappointed that the Packers lost last night. This is, however, mainly because I like the color combination of the Packers, and thus had made one thing and am working on another thing for my shop that are in green and gold. Now that they're not going to the Superbowl, will people still want Packers stuff?

In sewing machine news, the Hello Kitty machine is slowly earning my ire. However, this may be because I'm trying to make it use quilting thread. This is apparently a bad idea. :)

And finally, in other craft related news, I really am having a lot of fun making ACEOs. They're just so cute, and not so complex as to make me lose my attention span. :)

And now, some thoughts on Scion. :)

As to a little background information, Jerome is actually the one who discovered this game, I believe on our one and only trip to Barnes & Noble since we have arrived. That store is a dangerous place for people who like books, so we avoid it. :) At any rate, he found the game, thought it looked neat, and I was half inclined to agree with him. Only half inclined, mind you, because I generally haven't liked what White Wolf has done with their newer games.

I think Scion has changed my mind. Granted, I haven't really looked at the mechanical aspects of the game yet, and I may find that they are simply maddening, but as for the background behind the game, and the general feel of the game, I think White Wolf has a winner. In my book, at least, which ought to count for something, if you ever think about how much money I have spent on that company's products. (I try not to. It just makes me depressed. :) )

The basic premise of the game is that all of the old "pagan" gods are still around, and occasionally come to Earth to... ummmm... propogate... yeah, that's a good way to put it. And the offspring of a god and a mortal is a Scion. So depending upon who your character's divine parent is, he or she will have all sorts of nifty powers and inclinations. My character, for example, is a daughter of Tyr. She's going to be a politically active rock singer, championing such causes as gender and racial equality--in other words, justice for all. :)

My only complaint about the game so far is this: Scion: Hero is the first in a series of three books. It only covers character advancement up to one-third of your character's ultimate potential. In other words, if you wanna take your character all the way, you'll have to wait on the other two books, which will cover the rest of their potential. Clever marketing strategy. Annoying, however. Scion: Hero set us back $35+tax. This is gonna end up being a $100+ game! (Oh, wait, we're thinking about how much money I have spent / will spend on game books again. Stop that.)

So I'm sure I'll have more to say when I read through the rules mechanics. Of course, that would involve wrestling the book away from Jerome for more than a few minutes at a time, and having a bit of free time to do so. Okay, so it will probably wait till Saturday morning, when he's still asleep. :)

In other news, I get to meet some of the other folks from the Seattle Etsy street team tomorrow night. Saturday, we've got a Crafty Supply Swap (sponsored by i.heart.rummage), and Sunday, some of us EtsyRain folks are going to be at the Fremont Market. If you're in the Seattle area, stop by and see us! We'll be at the FAR end of the Market, which I can't describe in terms of street intersections, but if you've ever been to the Fremont Market, I think you will understand. :)

So I was flipping through my copy of Mexico City by Night last night, when I discovered something unusual. They list both a proofreader and an editor for this book. *gasp*... does that mean that White Wolf has actually decided to put a little more time and effort into their products? Perhaps this is the case, since I don't really recall finding any HORRIBLE errors in Mexico City by Night... maybe I should double check it for them... :)

Yet every time I pick up Encyclopedia Vampirica, another glaring error jumps out at me... found a misspelling of Giovanni last night... alas, it wasn't Ghivanni... that would have made me happy... :)

Must check up on the other White Wolf books I've gotten recently... maybe they're finally concerned with printing books that don't make me mad... :)

And a quiz... :)

Classic Black

Its only the classic black Doc Martens for me...
My soul is dark so why shouldn't my shoes be?

Which Doc Marten are you?

Yeah, and one of these days, I might buy some Docs... :)

My brain is a bizarre, bizarre place... I'm walking into work this morning, when I realize that the song that is running through my head is "Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love" by They Might Be Giants. That's off of Flood. I haven't listened to that in AGES! Luckily, I got it on CD not too long ago, so I can listen to it when I get home, if I wanna... but it's just soooo weird for a song that I haven't heard for (easily) more than a year to be stuck in my head...

Work is still work... I'm still working on the really long HTML file, though I'm to the proofreading stage now... and I got through a good chunk of it yesterday. Go me! :)

Forgot to mention yesterday that I finally got a copy of Encyclopedia Vampirica! I ended up having to buy it on eBay, cuz they were out of them here in town. But seeing as I probably got a better deal on it on eBay (even factoring in the discount I get when I buy it here vs. the shipping I had to pay for the eBay copy), I'm pretty happy! And, of course, poor editing aside (the bane of White Wolf books), I love it! :) Now I have to go back through my "genealogy" of Vampires that I've been working on for a few years now, and make sure it matches with the stuff in the book... *sigh*...

Oh, who am I kidding... I love this stuff! :)

And an update on Jack & Jubilee's background, for those who are interested: it hit 15 pages last night... with a bunch more to go... :)
