End of the Work Week Wisdom!

"He's more of a spooner than a forker."
--Christy, expanding on a person's proclivity for snuggling

And in other, completely unrelated news, why is it that I can have shelves and shelves of yarn, but I'm always running low on the yarn I want/need to use?

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

"You know what else keeps wine fresher? My belly."
--I am so clever.

The hubbie was trying to convince me that the wine with twist-off caps that my dad had bought at Grocery Outlet was because the twist-off caps keep the wine fresher. I disconcur. I think it means it's cheap. :)

(Hubbie is semi-right. Looks like the concern is bad cork ruining good wine. But I maintain that the stuff my dad bought was not good wine. Plus, wine in my belly is yummy. :) )

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

K: "Dawn, I have a question for you."
Me: "I'm sure I know the answer."
K: "Why are there a bunch of people walking around around downtown dressed up all weird?"

It's like my co-workers know me or something. :) It's SakuraCon this weekend (and NorWesCon as well, but that's near the airport).

Belated End of the Work Week Wisdom

It's one of those weeks.

There are chickens across the street from me. I don't milk them.

Yeah, that's writer's group for you. :)

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

Wherein I prove that I am like a twelve year old sometimes. :)

See?! Buffy didn't feel it. I think you're drawing a lot of crazy conclusions about the Unholy Prince! (They look at him) Bator.
--Xander, from the Buffy vs. Dracula episode

Which might make more sense if you realize that Xander also called Dracula "Master." But I think it's HILARIOUS to just add "Bator" to the end of everything now. Because I am twelve sometimes. :)

In related news, Nate said last night "After five years, there aren't spoilers any more. It's called 'history.'" Which I suppose is fair. But I keep tripping over Buffy spoilers, and as you can see from the quote, we're only at the beginning of season 5. If there are any more spoilers that I haven't accidentally hit so far, I'll be impressed.

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

"I don't want to pursue a painful policy of truth. I'd like to pursue a gentle policy of truth. If it starts to hurt, I don't care about the truth!"
--Jeremy's thoughts on "Policy of Truth" by Depeche Mode

And yes, this is pre-pain meds. :)

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

Ugh. I'm sick today, so all you get is the End of the Work Week Wisdom.

"Dress every day like you'd run away with the Doctor in those clothes."
--unattributed quote, but I'll attribute it to my friend Aine, who posted it on Facebook

Today is not a "dressed like you'd run away with the Doctor" sort of day. Though I am wearing my Doctor Mew shirt. Which I can't seem to find anywhere on the Internet, but I did find this, and now I want another shirt.

Also, one of the cats is sitting in the chair behind me and snoring. It's kinda adorable.

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

This week's End of the Work Week Wisdom takes a bit of explanation. As we're driving home from work yesterday, Jeremy had music playing from his iPhone. A song came on, and he said "Is this Maria Bareilles?" Though I don't listen to her music, I said "You mean Sara Bareilles?" He said "Oh, yeah. She looks like a Maria." I looked at the picture on the phone, in which her face is half covered by her hands, and asked "How does she look like a Maria?" To which he responded...

"She looks like she could give birth to Our Savior ... in Mexico."
--Jeremy, on why Sara Bareilles' name should be Maria

My husband, ladies and gentlemen. Have I mentioned that he's Buddhist? :)

It's BACK!

I've decided that it's about time to bring back the End of the Work Week Wisdom. It's been a while, so if you want to check out some of the old ones, click on the "end of the work week wisdom" tag at the end of this post. :) Go ahead, this one will still be here when you get back. :)

And without further ado:

"There's snow, and then ice, and then more snow. It's like an Oreo. A crappy, cold Oreo."
--My description of the state of things in Seattle right now

The good news is that the snow (and ice, and more snow) seem to be melting at present. Let's just hope that it melts at a rate that the drains can handle...

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

That's right, it has returned! But this may be a one time thing, just because I needed to find and post this quote.

"I will eat all the leaves on this tree. I will eat more leaves than I should and then other giraffes may die. Ah-ha-ha. I am an evil herbivore."
--Eddie Izzard as the evil giraffe

This is mainly because I have apparently been misquoting this for a while now. My version was actually kinder to those poor non-evil giraffes. I think Jeremy may be more traumatized if I tell him that the other giraffes will die because he ate the last Dessert Pocky. :)

In case you haven't figured it out? My boyfriend and I are a bit silly. And have lots of Pocky because he went to Uwajimaya on his day off. :)

"Wow, he does look like he's in pain!"

(a.k.a. We watched Twilight)

So Jeremy and I sat down to watch Twilight on Wednesday. More specifically, we were planning to watch a movie. I asked him what we had on Netflix. He said "Well, Twilight, and ..." And I didn't let him finish. :) Because for as cheesy as I thought the book was, I had to watch the train wreck that was the movie. (I also have to read New Moon before that movie comes out, so we can see it in the theater.)

And let me tell you. Serious train wreck. It was so bad, it kept me marginally entertained. Mostly, it was the acting that was just atrocious. I mean, I like the fact that they didn't cast any big name Hollywood stars in the movie. But at the same time, I half suspect that any big name Hollywood stars who read the script would have backed away, possibly using a cross to defend themselves.

I have to say that the best acting probably came from the guy who played Jasper, because as soon as one of the other characters said "The one who always looks like he's in pain is Jasper," I responded with "Wow, he does look like he's in pain!" Kudos to him for that magnificent acting feat. :) I wonder if he actually managed to hurt himself to make him more convincing? :)

And that's about as close as we come to End of the Work Week Wisdom this week. Short version: watch Twilight if you like laughing at bad acting. It's spectacular. :)

+++++

And in other news of the shameless plug variety, I'm offering free shipping on all of my hats until the end of August. Yeah, I know it's way too early to even think about winter wear, but if you buy now, you can get a head start on the weather AND save a bit of cash. :)

End of the week! Finally!

This week has gone by relatively quickly, but I'm still glad it's Friday. Of course, no rest for the wicked this weekend--we've got a full weekend of gaming at Go Play Northwest. We have, however, agreed that we will make tonight an early night, as we're both exhausted from being up way past our bedtimes last night. But since we got to see a really wonderful performance of The Tempest by the Seattle Shakespeare Company, it was worth staying up late.

And the End of the Work Week Wisdom comes from The Tempest. :)

"Hell is empty, and all the devils are here."
--Ariel, in The Tempest

Nothing terribly deep or profound, just a quote that I rather liked. :)

Friday!

And since I'm traveling, I only have a partial weekend, but ah well. Get to see my sister Monday night, and the rest of her family, as well as my mom, on Friday. This makes it almost worthwhile that I will be spending 2 weeks in Kansas City. I will be missing Jeremy like crazy, though, which is the big reason I wish I didn't have to go. Hopefully, though, the two weeks will give him some much needed time for writing, which I tend to distract him from. :)

Another bummer is that I have to miss our vanilla Exalted game on Saturday, and the Dragon-Blooded Exalted game on Sunday. In honor of the latter, a quote from the last session is this week's End of the Work Week Wisdom:

"Watch us secretly be related to every NPC in the game."--Katie
"It's like Lost!"--Craig

--Yeah, it's pretty much like that. :)

Friday, April 24, 2009

Whee! :)

Just got enough time to share some End of the Work Week Wisdom, and then it's back to work. I'm within paragraphs of finishing the last chapter I need to write for this report, and I'm getting it done today... YAY! :)

"I seem to have a problem with my engine. The kind where it exploded."
--Jimmy, the NPC in Madeline's Firefly game, after we attacked his ship.

Just one of the many quotes from Ambercon, and really the best one for not needing a lot of context. :)

Right. Finish chapter, go home, and finish a bunch of half-done crochet projects while doing laundry. Then it's off to the weekend of gaming... whee! :)

Friday, April 03, 2009

Whee!

So while it is disingenuous to post End of the Work Week Wisdom today, I'm gonna do it anyhow. Cuz it's still Friday, and that's the end of most people's work weeks. Just not mine this week.

(Mine was either Wednesday, which is the last day I was in the office this week, or tomorrow, because I've still got conference events to attend tomorrow.)

Me: "X lives under the laundry room."
Jeremy: "Like a troll?!"

--How the discussion of people I know in my building turns much more crazy.

I told him I would never be able to look at X (name withheld) again without thinking of trolls... fabulous for the next dozen or so times I run into X in the hallway... :)

Three day weekend!

So because of my extra long commute last week, I was able to get tomorrow off work. This is extra exciting because Jeremy is also off work tomorrow, so we're going on a mini road trip... wanna guess where to? Here, have some End of the Work Week Wisdom while you ponder the possibilities.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."
--Special Agent Dale Cooper, "Twin Peaks"

Yup, we're going to Twin Peaks. :)

More accurately, we're going to North Bend, Washington, which is where a lot of the exterior shots from Twin Peaks were filmed. We figured that now that I've finished watching the series, it would be a nice little day trip to take. My camera battery is charging as I type, and we're heading out some time tomorrow, with a goal of having lunch in North Bend... unless we decide that sleeping all morning is a better plan. In that case, dinner in North Bend. :)

Wow...

It's been a crazy week, and I haven't managed to carve out any time to sit down and blog. At all. Hopefully next week will be much more productive in terms of writing. :)

So let's see here... recap of my week.

Monday sucked like only Mondays can suck. Basically everything I wanted and needed to do ended up getting deferred when my microwave crapped out right as I went to reheat my leftover pizza. Ugh.

Tuesday evening was spent getting Jerome moved into his new place, and necessitated a lot of carrying heavy stuff. No fun!

Wednesday involved moving more stuff (and no, it's still not completely done) and playing phone tag with Jeremy so that he could cook me dinner. :)

Thursday, I had a work trip to Olympia for the day. Got home nice and early and discovered that my vacuum cleaner really can't deal with long hair on slighly plush carpet. *sigh* Then I made dinner, and Jeremy and I went out shopping for my new PS3 and TV. Expensive shopping trip, but TOTALLY worth it. Rock Band 2 looks amazing on my new TV. :) (Yeah, most of what I bought was so that I could feed the addiction... I am the ridiculous person who buys a PS3 because of one game that I can't live without. :) )

And today, we have End of the Work Week Wisdom from a new source, who has been getting a lot of mention in this blog. :)

"History is written by the victor. Have the historians beat the crap out of each other, and then base your facts off of that."
--Jeremy's suggestion on how I should decide which historian had the facts correct.

I like the way he thinks. :)

Hurrah for Friday!

Though I'm busy as all get out, it's still nice that it's Friday. I'm slightly less busy when I don't spend 10 hours of the day out of my apartment. :)

Tomorrow is Punk Rock Flea Market, which will have me out of the apartment for... oh, something like 10-11 hours. Well, at least I'm home for a good chunk of Sunday. Thank goodness for the people I'm traveling with having a much longer flight and not wanting to leave too early. They leave at 4 something, and I don't take off till 7 p.m. :)

Back next Friday, and then we have parties to attend the next two nights. Then I think I have a week of normal with an actual Saturday, before I Heart Rummage on the 21st. Then I work 3 days, and then get something ridiculous like 11 days of vacation. Only spending 2 of them at our apartment, but ah well. :)

I will be a very happy person when January rolls around. I'm looking forward to being bored. :)

And End of the Work Week Wisdom:
"Period military is not the dress code of a straight man."
--Owen Harper, referring to Captain Jack Harkness, on Torchwood

Yes, I am obsessed. :) Though I do have to say that I like Captain Jack better when he's on Doctor Who. He's much more of comic relief there... he only gets one or two really funny lines on his own show. :)

And real Friday

Which is nice, because waking up this morning was very hard. But knowing that it was Friday and not another Monday (which is what it felt like) was good. :)

We had a lovely day yesterday, spending time with Aine and John at Jana and Michael's place, with Jana's two kids. Of course, I say kids, but they're 18 and 19, so not really kids. I was convinced that Jerome had found his long lost brother, which was pretty amusing. We watched a ton of random movies, ate an enormous quantity of really good food, and had some fun and interesting conversations. And we've already made plans for next Thanksgiving, which seems to be our Aine and John holiday. The first year we were in Seattle, they hosted us; this year they drove us to the festivities; next year, we're going to host them. Since it's a year away, that gives us plenty of time to figure out where people can sit and get the place cleaned up. :)

In other news, we finished season 4 of Doctor Who on Wednesday, which means we have to wait like forever for season 5 (which hasn't started yet). Either that, or figure out if it airs in the U.S. when it airs in the U.K. That would be awesome!

And the End of the Work Week Wisdom comes from the season 4 finale:

"I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now!"
--Captain Jack Harkness

Which of course is totally meaningless out of context, but a) it involves spoilers, and b) we were laughing our asses off when we heard it, because Captain Jack is just so Captain Jack. :)
