Media consumption!

I've managed to watch a bit more stuff lately than I normally do, so here's a couple of notes on those things.

1) Tangled: Yes, the Disney movie. It was pretty good, but it's just NOT a Disney movie like the ones that came out when I was a teenager. Songs from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast still stick with me. I think that maybe if I was willing to watch Tangled a few more times, I might get some of those songs stuck in my head more, but I doubt I'd watch the movie again. It wasn't at all bad, it was just not quite what I hoped for. Though it was PRETTY. :)

2) Doctor Who: In anticipation of the newest episode, I went back and watched "A Good Man Goes to War" (which I keep wanting to call "Demons Run") and "The Doctor's Wife." The weird thing about watching these two in that order was that I caught something in "The Doctor's Wife" that I had dismissed the first time I heard it, but that made a whole lot more sense right on the heels of the later episode. This got me thinking that maybe I should watch the first half of season 6 in reverse order to see if there's more of that... because River's timeline is backwards in comparison to the Doctor's... hmmm. :)

Anyway, like I said, this was in anticipation of "Let's Kill Hitler," which turned out to be maddening and lovely all at the same time. Only five more episodes left this season, which seems far too short for my liking! (And yeah, 13 episodes is normal, but it just REALLY seems short this season.)

3) Buffy: We're up to season 3 of Buffy currently, about halfway through. And I've discovered that I can't pick up anything that Joss Whedon has a hand in presently as I will stumble across more spoilers. This time, it was an issue of the Dollhouse comic, which talked about what was going on in terms of Buffy "season 9," which is a forthcoming comic (they already did season 8 as comics). As it turns out, it wasn't a TV show spoiler, but a season 8 spoiler. Nonetheless, ugh.

4) Captain America: We finally made it out to see Captain America last weekend, and enjoyed it thoroughly. It still breaks my brain a little that Johnny Storm is playing Cap now. I might like Cap as much as I disliked Johnny. :) And the trailer for the Avengers movie, though quite vague, still makes me excited to see it! :)

Watching TV years later

Since we don't have any TV stations at home, we watch nearly all of our TV at least a few months after it originally airs. (We make an exception for Doctor Who, which we buy as individual episodes, because even that is cheaper than cable.) So we watch stuff on Netflix whenever it's available.

Lately, we've been on a tear through Buffy. Jeremy has watched the last two seasons, but he never watched the early stuff. And I watched one episode total when it aired, because my sister was a fan and she tried to get me to like it. (It didn't work.)

The problem, though, is that when you watch something years after the fact, there's an inevitability of spoilers. Case in point, we just finished season 2 the other day. For those who don't remember, that's the one where Buffy sends Angel to hell. But no, it's not really a spoiler, because for anyone who is marginally aware of TV, obviously Angel comes back, because he gets his spin-off show in a couple more seasons. :)

But I wonder, from my detached viewpoint, how fans of the show must have reacted to that. OMG, they killed Angel!!!! And then they had to wait until the next season to find out what happened next.

I have a bad enough time with suspense between weeks on Doctor Who. I'm SO glad I'm not having to deal with that for multiple shows. :)

(For the record, it doesn't take long for Angel to come back. I think he's in several episodes (in dream sequences) before he comes back. I wonder how much of that was angry fangirls hating on Joss for taking Angel away. :) )

Works in progress

I've been plugging along with more scarves, and I have three more that are done and one almost done (it needs to be washed). I haven't posted any of them yet, of course, since I only just got photos of one of those taken. Yeah, I'm a wee bit behind on the photography front.

Tonight, we're going to work on getting part of the spare room organized. If it turns out that it's too crowded for both of us to work on the same area, I might try to get some pictures taken. :)

In the meantime, though, I got a custom order for a pair of Decapitated Dollies. Since they're a gift for someone I don't know, I'll refrain from posting who they are, but I will give you a hint: they're from a TV show that, somewhat inexplicably, I have never seen. It's next up on our agenda, however. :)

Wow...

Kids take a TON out of you. We picked everyone up at the airport around 11 a.m., and dropped them off at their hotel a touch before 6, and we were beat. Now, granted, I had been to the gym in the morning, and there was a REALLY big flight of steps that Peter begged to be carried up. And since his mom had Lila and his dad had all of their stuff, I carried him up a couple of flights, and Jeremy carried him the rest of the way. My legs are STILL feeling those stairs. :(

But we did have a blast. The light rail train and aquarium were HUGE hits with Peter, and I think Lila enjoyed seeing some of the fish. She's still just at the single word stage of things, so it was a lot of "Look!" and other babbling. The real great hit with her was actually the lavender pillow. It was soft and smelled good, and so she snuggled it immediately. I also like to think that she loved it a lot because it was made from a T-shirt that used to belong to her good buddy Jeremy (or, as my sister's husband dubbed him, "Friend Jeremy," since he isn't their uncle). :)

After that we managed to drag ourselves to a night of fiction reading (by other people, not us) at the Wayward, and then zonked out. We were SO grateful for the lazy Sunday we had planned. We spent a bit of time sifting through some books to ease the strain on a couple of bookcases, and then headed to the Cinebarre for Iron Man II. I am now totally in love with that theater. Mid-afternoon on a Sunday seems to be a great time to go, as it wasn't too crowded. So we got our snacks and drinks delivered to our seats relatively quickly, and got to enjoy the movie in a mostly quiet theater. Plus, I had sangria to drink. Jeremy got a $5 milkshake. :) I love it!

Came home to make somewhat disastrous giant burritos (the structural integrity of Jeremy's collapsed midway through, and mine decided that sour cream was a good addition to my shirt), but then we got to watch two more episodes of Doctor Who. Though they were probably not my favorites of this season (episode 1 is holding that honor at the moment), even though they're all about the Weeping Angels, there were still good moments. And we're caught up in terms of what's available thus far! :)

In other news, Trader Joe's has blue cheese slices! It's technically blue cheese blended with Monterey Jack, but whatever. They're yummy. My sandwich today is ham and blue cheese with tomato and mayo on a big soft baguette thingie. Delicious! :)

Ack! It's been a while!

And I've been busy! :)

The weekend before this past one, I took a needle felting class with Moxie. I have had a needle felting kit for a while, but was generally getting frustrated every time I tried to use it. But after this little class, I feel a lot more like I can make the fiber bend to my whim. Moxie also mentioned that yes, it is possible to felt natural fibers to unnatural ones, which means I can felt dreadlocks onto Decapitated Dollies! w00t! (This has also led to GREAT amusement in our apartment, when I mentioned to Jeremy that a) I can felt with cat hairs, and b) I can felt them to his T-shirt. Okay, so I was amused. :) )

I also spent part of that weekend trying to come up with what I wanted to make for my swag for the EtsyRain spring show. I was mostly not coming up with anything, but I figured it out over the past week, and got it all done on Friday and Saturday. No details yet--if you want to know what I made, you'll have to get in line early on Saturday and get a swag bag! :) (I'll be in some of the swag bags, but not all.)

Jeremy and I spent most of the weekend watching season 4 of LOST (yeah, we're way behind) because we both have/had colds. (I'm mostly better now, though still sniffly. He is still pretty cold-ridden.) This meant I could get a lot of eyeball cat toys mostly done--our cats freak out if I actually get the catnip out, so I save that part for when I'm NOT at home. Next project is to get some fish bodies ready to stuff, so I'll have all the pieces I need when those two items start selling at the show on Saturday! :)

The new Doctor Who

Jeremy decided to buy the first episode of the latest Doctor Who season from iTunes the other day. Who am I to tell him no? :)

I should backtrack, though, and say that I watched like one episode of Doctor Who in college and also read the novelization of that same episode (as a bizarre coincidence). Then when they rebooted the series with Christopher Eccleston, I started watching it and fell in love. But they say you always love your first Doctor the best; not me. I'm a David Tennant girl.

I might have to say WAS a David Tennant girl soon. When they first announced Matt Smith as the next Doctor, I looked at his IMDB page and said, "Oh, he's CUTE." With big time emphasis on the cute. Like someone's little brother cute. I tracked down Ruby in the Smoke (which he had done with Billie Piper, a.k.a. Rose Tyler), and said, "Yeah, okay, I think he can pull it off." So I've been a fan since soon after the announcement.

After watching the first full episode with Matt Smith, I'm a squeeing fangirl. He's FUNNY. I was laughing hard throughout most of the episode. Now, this may present problems later--I'm not sure I can take him seriously, because, again, CUTE! He's so young and slightly goofy looking, that I think the cute + funny will outweigh the serious. So I'm hopeful that he'll prove me wrong on this one. :)

And the new companion, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan)? She's already growing on me. No one can ever replace Rose, in my book, but I like what they're doing with this character. She's a special sort of companion, and I will probably cry when her heart gets broken. Because it will. Spectacularly. I already know.

I'm also picking up on the little subtle (and not so subtle) meta-plot things that are already being tossed out there. There will be badness. Lots of it. I know so.

And I'm back.

So when you add a cold to a long weekend, it's still a long weekend. You just spend more of it than originally planned lounging on the couch or sleeping. As a result, we missed a birthday party and the Abney Park show, but we got a lot of movie/TV watching in. I'm sure that I don't remember everything that we watched, but I'll hit a few of the highlights.

Pride & Prejudice: Jeremy is a big fan of the novel Pride & Prejudice, which I don't recall ever having read. I tried to read it on my trip to New Mexico, but between sheer exhaustion and Jane Austen's writing style, I can't do it. Marvel has recently started publishing the classics in comic book format, so Jeremy has been sweet enough to agree to add the Pride & Prejudice comic to his pull box at The Dreaming. So I've been reading it that way, which seems to help my comprehension immeasurably. And now we've been watching the made-for-TV miniseries, with Colin Firth in it. I am now appreciating the story, without having to actually get through Jane Austen's peculiar style of writing dialogue.

(I'm a little bothered by the fact that I can't actually slog through the real book, especially because at one point I wanted to be an English major. Though I suppose, to be fair, I was going to be a linguistics-focused English major. :) )

Battlestar Galactica: Yup, I'm a heathen who had been avoiding yet another sci-fi show, of which I have now become a rabid fan. We watched the mini-series, in large part because Jeremy wants to watch the seasons he hasn't seen yet without having to wait until I'm out of town. So he has agreed to go back to the beginning, so we can watch all of it. My boyfriend is a sweetheart. :)

(As an aside, I'm doing the same thing for him with Doctor Who. We tore through season 3 while we've been sick, and the discs for season 4 start arriving soon. We also plan on watching Lost in a similar fashion, and I think I'm a season ahead of him on that one too.)

Star Trek: Wow. I had heard negative reviews from 3 people prior to going, but generally positive reviews. I have to say that I come down on the positive side as well. I grew up as a quasi-Trekkie, because my dad was totally into the original series, and I was totally into the Next Generation (because of Wesley Crusher). I have dim memories of watching the movies as a kid, particularly when they aired on TV as I got a bit older. I stopped watching all things Trek (particularly skipping the movies) as time went on, but I was pretty excited about this new movie. It was worth the wait. :) I'm not terribly thrilled with the guy they have playing Kirk, but all of the other cast members were fabulous! And holy crap, Eric Bana as the bad guy. I didn't even recognize him! And the guy who plays Chekov? Absolutely frickin' adorable. (And super young! Eek!)

So for this week, we've got more Pride & Prejudice to finish, but with the both of us finally over the plague, it looks like we may return to normal levels of movie/TV watching, which tends to be minimal. Ah well, I'm sure we'll still make time for all of the series we need to catch up on. :)

David Lynch is on my bad list...

One of the things that Jeremy and I have been doing since we've been together is watching "Twin Peaks." In my case, it's been watching for the very first time. In his case, well, he sometimes quotes lines before the characters say them. (It's okay, I love him anyway. :) ) It has taken quite a while, because there has rarely been enough time to sit down and watch more than a couple of episodes at a time with our crazy schedules.

We finally finished the show on Sunday, as I ended up getting up ridiculously early on the one day I could have slept till noon. (For the record, that means it took us a month and a half to get through the show.) Jeremy had been warning me from about midway through the series that I was probably going to hate him when it was all over.

However, I've decided to lay the blame squarely where it belongs. On David Lynch. Cuz seriously, I was NOT a happy camper when I finally got to the end of the series. :( Suffice it to say, worst. ending. EVAR. Only that doesn't even begin to tell you how bad the last episode was. I think I would have been infinitely happier had I never watched that episode.

Of course, I should have expected it from David Lynch. I love Blue Velvet, but it's plenty weird. Lost Highway was even weirder. I can't remember if I watched Mulholland Drive or not, which shows you how much of an impression it may or may not have made on me. And generally speaking, these movies are also maddening.

(Oh, and he did the original Dune. I might have guessed that.)

We also watched Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me last night, and at least I knew how that was going to end, so it wasn't nearly as maddening to sit through all of the weirdness. I was bummed that Audrey Horne wasn't in it at all, but it seems they chopped a bunch of the characters when they made the movie. Ah well. (And in case it wasn't apparent from yesterday's post, I <3 Audrey. :) )

Overall though, I loved the show. I just hated the ending. I'll watch it again, just never again will I sit through that last episode. UGH!

Hurrah for Friday!

Though I'm busy as all get out, it's still nice that it's Friday. I'm slightly less busy when I don't spend 10 hours of the day out of my apartment. :)

Tomorrow is Punk Rock Flea Market, which will have me out of the apartment for... oh, something like 10-11 hours. Well, at least I'm home for a good chunk of Sunday. Thank goodness for the people I'm traveling with having a much longer flight and not wanting to leave too early. They leave at 4 something, and I don't take off till 7 p.m. :)

Back next Friday, and then we have parties to attend the next two nights. Then I think I have a week of normal with an actual Saturday, before I Heart Rummage on the 21st. Then I work 3 days, and then get something ridiculous like 11 days of vacation. Only spending 2 of them at our apartment, but ah well. :)

I will be a very happy person when January rolls around. I'm looking forward to being bored. :)

Yes, I am obsessed. :) Though I do have to say that I like Captain Jack better when he's on Doctor Who. He's much more of comic relief there... he only gets one or two really funny lines on his own show. :)

Ugh...

So we finally bought our new Rock Band guitar last night, only to get it home and discover that it wasn't working. UGH! We will, of course, be getting a new one, it's just a pain in the butt.

So instead of rocking out, we watched "Doomsday," which was a surprisingly good movie. Well, not entirely surprising, because Malcolm McDowell was in it. But yeah, this is that preview that you saw with the Mad Max looking movie with Malcolm McDowell in it. I didn't remember the preview until I realized he was in it... I really thought I had no clue what this movie was about, even. :) Oh, and it's not a zombie movie, per se. The "zombies" are way too smart.

We also started watching "Torchwood," which I've been anxiously awaiting as a way to fill the time until season 5 of Doctor Who starts/is watchable in the U.S. I can't help it, Captain Jack Harkness is just so damn charming. :) Of course, the show is already maddening, because there's stuff that Torchwood has that I'm like "nuh-uh, they can't have that, the Doctor has that..." So yeah, trying to watch all of those first two discs before I leave for my trip, but then I'll be going nuts waiting for the next discs!

Whee!

So I don't watch "Smallville." Never have, probably never will. I'm just not much of a Superman sort of girl. I like my superheroes a little less wholesome, I think. :) But "Smallville" is on right before "Supernatural," and so when Jerome turned on the TV last night, it was still on.

Now in the midst of his complaining about the fact that the guy on the screen was supposed to be Doomsday, and how wrong that was, I noticed the music they were playing in the background... more specifically, I _recognized_ the music they were playing. VAST! I was astounded! VAST has always been one of those bands that a handful of people I know have heard of, and here they are getting national television air time. Neat! :)

And of course, this really doesn't have much of a point. Just me being excited that a band I like(d... don't really care for a lot of their newer stuff) was on TV. :) I somehow only half watched "Supernatural," even though I know it was the mid-season big deal episode, but at least it wasn't a cliffhanger. I've missed at least 3 episodes this season, which have apparently contained all of the meta-plot, and so I'm utterly lost. *sigh*

Ah well, in good news, we should have the first two discs of Season 4 of Doctor Who, which means I will finally get to see the episode with the Adipose Babies. I already know all about them, though, as I made one that will be winging it's way to Paige soon, along with a Dalek. :) She's making Jerome some SWEET Clockwork Orange plugs in exchange. :)

End of the Work Week Wisdom!

I've noticed that End of the Work Week Wisdom has a bit of an unfair bias lately. You see, Thursday nights, right before I go to bed, I watch Supernatural. Which means that if I hear something funny on the show, it usually gets stuck in my head, and then ends up here on Friday.

Made slightly even more amusing by the fact that we're generally watching X-Files on whatever nights we don't have any Netflix DVDs to watch. We bought seasons 3 and 4 of X-Files at least 2 months ago, and we're just getting to disc 3 of Season 4. :)

Hmmm...

So yeah, Lost pretty much broke my brain, though at least the majority of it made sense. Finding out who Jeremy Bentham was, however, did hurt my brain. Though it also made me happy, because it was my first guess as to who was in the coffin... :) Seeing it, though, was something entirely different. :)

Looks like I've got a nice calm weekend planned, which is cool. Work has been super hectic this morning, and I'm hoping it will be calming down this afternoon. My luck, however, is that it won't even wait till I'm done with lunch to continue with the insanity. :) I have one thing that will take me maybe half an hour to do, but I know that as soon as I buckle down to do it, I'll get about 20 E-mails pulling my attention to 20 other things... oi!

Other than that, life is good. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that we've been in Seattle for just over a year now. Other times, I feel like I've lived here for longer. People on the streets downtown ask me for directions and information about the buses. I guess I just look like I know what's going on. :)

Lost season finale tonight!

Not sure how many of my readers are Lost fans, but I gotta blog about it today. I will probably also blog about it tomorrow. :)

I've discovered that what's worse than having to wait each week for the next episode is the knowledge that after the season finale tonight, I have to wait until like September or October or something for the new season to start. WAY more torture than waiting a whole week for new goodness. I am way too much into instant gratification, I think. :)

I am pretty pleased, however, that I have managed to avoid spoiler pages and no just find out what I had to wait for. Being on the West Coast, I know there are folks on the East Coast already blogging about Lost before it airs here. But no, I resist the urge to go find out what's going to happen. The suspense is good, if a bit maddening. :)

But man, I gotta find a show to watch on Thursdays for the summer... either that, or remember to send back our Netflix DVDs faster, so we have more movies to watch. :)

In other news, someone in the office brought in fresh bread a few days ago, and it's still pretty good. Top it off with the blackberry preserves that another co-worker brought in a few weeks ago, and it's delicious. But to me it smells like tea... weird, I know...

Augh!

So as I may have mentioned before, we're one of those households living in the stone age, with no TIVO, and no immediate plans to get one. It's not anything against TIVO, it's mainly that I went for about 5 years of having no or limited TV channels, and not watching much TV. Now that we do have TV channels, it's mostly background noise for me.

With the exception of Lost. That's the show I can't bear to miss. I freaked out last week because I thought it was going to be on when I was out of town. But no, it resumes this week. Unfortunately, it resumes this week an hour later than it used to come on--10 p.m. our time.

And now you see the TIVO dilemma. If I had one, I could just TIVO Lost and watch it tomorrow after work. And I'd be okay with that--I can avoid the spoiler sites for a day, I think. :) But with no TIVO, the only solution is to stay up late to watch it. (Yes, there is also the option of waiting a week and watching it when it airs at 9 p.m. the following week, but I can't avoid spoilers for that long. :) )

I suppose when it comes down to it, there are many worse annoyances in life, and I should be glad that this is my main gripe at the moment. But dangit, why are they making my favorite show HARDER for me to watch?!

I might be becoming obsessed...

So I've always been a fan of Alice in Wonderland, all the way back to the cartoon version when I was a kid. I'm also very sure that I've read the book at least once. And, of course, there was that one time when I was Alice, at least the version from America McGee's video game. (Actually, I've worn the costume twice now. :) )

Yesterday, Jerome told me that he had found a version of Alice in Wonderland with Martin Short playing the Mad Hatter, and it was on our On Demand cable thingie. So I could watch it if I wanted to. I asked him who else was in it, and he listed off a pretty impressive cast list. I asked him who was playing Alice. He didn't know.


At any rate, after getting home from work and going out in the rainsnowyuck (that's a technical term), I decided I might as well watch it while I worked on some other stuff. Well, as it turns out, this made-for-TV version is amazing, and so I watched it pretty intently (though I do still need to go back and watch the end... meaning I'll probably just re-watch it tonight...). And, as it turns out, Alice is played by Tina Majorino... a.k.a. Deb from Napoleon Dynamite. :)

And, of course, the reason I didn't watch the end yet is because Jerome had an alarm set on the TV to tell him that the Sarah Connor Chronicles was going to be on in two minutes. Summer Glau (a.k.a. River from Firefly/Serenity) is in that. We immediately changed channels. :) (The show is atrocious. Summer is hot. :) )

(As an aside, I should point out that I'm not sure what to think about the fact that they're making a movie version of America McGee's Alice, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. I'm a little bothered by it, though, because I don't like her. Though that dislike is for no apparent reason. Other than she's not Kristy Swanson.)

I hate television...

So I managed to go down for the count with the nasty cold that Jerome had over the weekend, though mostly I was just a total vegetable all day Saturday, and then much better.

However, in the process, we ended up watching the second half of season 3 of Lost. We've watched the entire series on DVD to date, but after the end of the season finale, we're both freaking out. The new season starts on January 31st, and we're seriously thinking about watching it as it happens this year.

Now, I haven't had most television channels since around 2002, and no channels at all since 2004, at least until we moved here. So I haven't had the problem of getting hooked on TV shows. I've watched everything on DVD, so it's basically ready for me whenever I want to watch it. I haven't had to deal with silly things like a week between shows. :)

This is gonna be a serious problem if we start watching Lost. On Friday and Saturday nights, we would get to the end of one episode, and both of us were scrambling for the remote to skip to the next one. If we can't deal with a few seconds of anticipation, how are we gonna wait a whole week?!

Also, we don't have Tivo or anything of the sort, and I'm not sure our TV is hooked up to our VCR correctly (we never use it). So this would also mean that for the foreseeable future, Thursday evenings would be completely useless. :)

We went through this with Supernatural not too long ago, and somehow Jerome managed to forget that it was on, and that we were missing it. I don't know if this plan will work with Lost or not. I'm also not sure I want to wait a whole year to find out what happens... :)

Netflix is way too cool!

As many of you who read this blog might have noticed, I'm a wee bit obsessed with movies and such. It may come as something of a surprise, then, that we JUST signed up for Netflix on Tuesday. I think this was mainly because I was a bit leery of mailing DVDs in thin paper envelopes--seemed like a sure way to end up with really scratched up DVDs. However, it seems that this is not the case, and that makes me happy! :)

We got our first 3 DVDs yesterday, and immediately sat down to start watching season 2 of Supernatural. We had gotten through season 1 a month or so before we moved, and really liked it. But since we had no channels in Carbondale, we have always been out of the loop on when shows start new seasons or even are on TV. We found out not too long ago that season 3 starts on October 4th, so I was determined to get through all 6 DVDs from season 2 before that.

It ain't gonna happen. :) We got through 7 episodes last night, and have 5 more to watch tonight. Then I'll send them back to Netflix on Saturday, and they will send me the next 3, probably on Tuesday. Jerome starts back in school on Monday, and has a Wednesday night class again. So even if we did, by some stroke of luck, get the DVDs on Tuesday, we still couldn't get through all of the episodes before Thursday!

I think I've decided that I'm okay with this, however. Four years of not having cable, and two years of no TV channels at all, has made me really dislike normal TV viewing. I don't want to have to sit through commercials, and wait an entire week for a new episode! Give me my TV uninterrupted, and at the pace I want it (which means multiple episodes in one sitting)!

So I'm probably better off just watching every TV show I like on DVD. This does necessitate me avoiding all of the spoilers on the interwebz like crazy, but I can just pretend that I'm still not interested in these shows, like I did when I didn't have TV... right? :)

Oh, dammit. Then I went and looked at IMDB, and the first thing I see is a teaser for a new TV show called "Moonlight," and the main character is a vampire. ARGH!

I would also like to add something of a conversation that Megan and I had yesterday, as she tried to tempt me into buying Demon: the Fallen...

D: "I'm not spending my money on that crack... now if someone were to give me a copy for Christmas..." [pause] "No, screw that... I'm not wasting a Christmas present on that!"

Usually, I have no problem buying anything with the White Wolf logo on it... but I've been balking about Demon since I heard it was coming out... it's not that I'm opposed to the idea... it's just that:

a) it's been done before... it was called In Nomine... I still wanna try out that system...

b) does the World of Darkness REALLY need Demons running around? In the revised edition, they REALLY tried to downplay infernalism and other such nonsense, to the point where I have to go find a 2nd ed book in order to find out about demonic investments... because it's the ONLY place they were printed... so I thought that maybe White Wolf had grown out of the juvenile "kewl powerz" stage... from everything I've heard about Demon, they must have decided that their target audience (read: the people who buy all the books) are the "kewl powerz" type of roleplayers... and I use that term loosely...

c) they list Demolitions as a skill on the character sheet... not a secondary ability... as a main skill... so gee... who doesn't think that all the little power gamerz are gonna have their characters go and blow shit up? And I'm generally against that sort of stuff, for a variety of reasons... but the big one? It's a lame way to solve your problems... try using thought, not explosives...

Sorry for the rantiness, I just got a little annoyed when I actually looked in the book... and I'm not planning on buying it... or probably playing it either...

In other news, we rented all three tapes of Kindred: the Embraced last night... Gabe had never seen any of it, while I was a HUGE fan when it was on TV... now, I will fully admit... it is CHEEZY to an extreme... Vampires being able to run around in the sunlight, as long as they've fed recently (which apparently means "this century"), Gangrel in the plural referred to as the "Gangrels" (that just doesn't seem right to me)... the FIVE clans of the Camarilla... the Brujah who are more like Giovanni... the Gangrel who are more like a weird hybrid of Gangrel, Brujah, and Ravnos... the Nosferatu who are just bald and have funny ears... calling the Primogen "bosses"... calling the Primogen meetings "Conclaves"...

But hey, it's vaguely amusing, and it's fun to watch again, close to 6 years after it originally aired... :) And not everything is bad... the Toreador and Ventrue are pretty dead on to how I see the clans being... :) Umm... but that's about it... :)

Friday Five!

1. How many TVs do you have in your home? Just one!

2. On average, how much TV do you watch in a week? Well, in C-dale, you either have to pay outrageous sums of money for cable, or you get about 5 or 6 stations... so I watch very little TV... if Jeopardy hadn't been moved to 4 p.m. (was at 4:30, before), I'd watch about 2 and a half hours of TV a week... as things go, it's closer to 0... :)

3. Do you feel that television is bad for young children? I think that too much TV is bad for anyone, children or adults. Within moderation, there's nothing wrong with it. As much as I complain about the fact that my parents only let me watch 2 hours of Saturday morning cartoons every Saturday when I was a kid, I think it was probably a good thing... because it meant that I would be forced to get out and do other things with my Saturdays...

4. What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you're heartbroken? None, any more... I used to really hate missing X-Files, and wrestling. But I didn't have Fox for about a year and a half, so I stopped missing X-Files... and with all the changes in the wrestling world, and not having UPN for most of that, I grew out of it too... in fact, I haven't watched wrestling for a good month or so... no big loss!

5. If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like? Uhhh... all movies? That's all I watch, mostly...

And speaking of movies, watched "The Big Lebowski" last night... it was funny, sure, but I was expecting a lot funnier... I guess I had already been told about most of the really funny parts... *shrug*...

It probably didn't help any that I was feeling rather sick last night, as was Gabe... stupid colds, or whatever we've got... it's annoying, to say the least!

Right, that's about it... I'm feeling better today than I was last night, but still not great... just about everybody I know has a cold, or the flu, or just generally feels like crap... it sucks... especially when you get more sick as the weekend approaches... I'd much rather be sick during the week, if I have to be sick at all!
