Wrasslin'...

Yeah, I said it. Wrasslin'. For long term readers of SWG.net, you may have caught some of my former chatter about professional wrestling, because I used to watch it weekly. Unfortunately, I don't think I can say "used to" anymore... Jerome and I seem to be getting hooked on watching wrestling.

Watching wrestling for me was originally more of a social event. It was the night when I would head over to my friends' house and sit for a couple of hours chatting and making fun of what was going on. When I started crocheting, this was the perfect way for me to hone my skills of TV watching while crocheting--wrestling is particularly mindless, plus they show lots of slow-motion replays of things that I might have missed if I was reading a pattern or fiddling with a tricky stitch. Many a hat was made while I tried to avoid the bars on the futon that made sitting on it so uncomfortable.

Now Jerome was never really a wrestling fan or a casual observer; by the time he and I started dating, my excursions to watch wrestling were fairly few and far between--I was doing far too much other stuff to keep a weekly wrestling watching date. :) But now that we're on the West Coast, wrestling doesn't air until considerably later--RAW comes on at 9 p.m., which is about the time that we're usually looking for something to watch. So we've been watching for the past couple of weeks, and I woke up to an E-mail this morning telling me that we might have to watch another one of the wrestling shows because someone is coming back... someone who carries a bat. This, unfortunately, is not enough information for me to go on, so I'll have to get details later. :)

(BTW, I should note that I often wake up to E-mails from Jerome because if he tried to tell me things when he comes to bed, I would just forget them by morning. And if I tried to ask him questions when I get up for work, he would probably babble incoherently at me. :) )

Whew...

I think I finally beat this cold, but it's been a bit exhausting. I probably should have gone to bed earlier last night, but then I discovered that WWE (yes, wrestling) comes on at 9 p.m. here. I managed to tear myself away after about an hour, but I actually sat and watched it without having to have something else to work on. My brain was clearly in a mushy sort of state. :)

Hopefully now I'll be able to get back on track with making stuff and writing. There's always more of both to be done. :) Jerome has a bunch of homework that he will need to finish tonight, so maybe I will be able to buckle down and get my work done while he does his work.

I've got a craft fair in a week and a half, the "Fall Thing" in Phinney Ridge, on October 20th. My main concern right now is that I need to figure out what to take. I have plenty of stock, that's for sure! I just have to decide which types of stock I should take. I'm sharing a table, and thus won't have a ton of space, so I need to pick what I think will sell the best.

I'm definitely taking hats. I got a really spiffy folding bookcase on Saturday, and will be able to use that to stack extra hats on. So it's really just a matter of "hats and what else?" This is the problem of making too many different types of things, folks. Sure, being able to have lots of things you could be working on is awesome, but when you KEEP making stuff, no matter what, you end up with way too much.

(And the picture is just one of the many autumn themed things I've made...)

I don't have much in the way of End of the Work Week Wisdom this week, but I would like to share things that are wrong:

1) People throwing chickens at other people.
2) Chicken catapults.
3) Joy Giovanni.
4) Joy Giovanni not being put in a coffin.

All of this brought to you by watching Smackdown for the first time in several months... :)

I would also like to share things that should be wrong, but aren't:

1) Blow stuff up. Blow more stuff up. Blow the living crap out of stuff. Blow the living crap out of stuff some more. Etc.
2) Voicemails that do not contain a single intelligible word, yet still make you laugh for a good five minutes straight.

That is all. :)

That's weird, Gabe told me about a comment he left yesterday, and it didn't show up... crazy blog...

I had a really surreal moment this morning, walking to work... I'm walking down the hill behind the apartment, just minding my own business, when I notice a girl walking down the middle of the street, ahead of me, blowing bubbles... not the type of thing you expect to see at 7:30 a.m. :)

Wrestling last night was okay... everyone wanted Bret Hart to show up, but that wasn't very likely, IMHO... and I was right... :) And Mollett, I'm really thinking that if Kane is still Glenn Jacobs, then he's had part of his shins removed... because he used to be just as tall as 'Taker, and now he's barely taller than Stone Cold and Triple H... so either he shrunk, or he's not the same dude... any rate, I'm about 99% positive that it was Brian Adams under that mask for a while... now it's somebody different...

That's about all of the exciting news I have at the moment... :)

Wow, I've gotten quite a bit done this morning... just taking a few minutes now before going to eat lunch... :)

Wrestling last night was pretty good... a nice long tribute to Mick Foley in the middle of the show made me quite happy... I'll probably break out my Foley T-shirt to wear after work... :)

Oh, but Kane seems to have changed again... see, first, Kane was Glen Jacobs... who used to be Isaac Yankem. Then, one night last fall (I think), we were watching wrestling at Thor and Cindy's old place, and noticed that Kane didn't look the same any more... so we sorta watched him for a while, and figured out that it was probably Brian Adams... but last night, when he took the mask off, it definitely wasn't either of the two previous Kane's (assuming that Brian Adams was Kane for a while, which I think he was)... and none of us have ANY clue who this new Kane is... which is utterly bizarre, when you add up the collective wrestling knowledge of the wrestling watching group... :)

So I suppose I'll have to look into that later on... *sigh*... :)

Hmmm... wrestling last night was mostly tolerable... not great, by any means, but mostly tolerable...

Tonight, going out with Cindy and Shannon for a little while, cuz it's Shannon's b-day... not gonna stay out too late, or I'll be tired as hell tomorrow... and that's no good...

I should go start working on the subject files now... but it's really tempting to stay at my desk and do other stuff... which would be mostly slacking off... :) But no, I'll probably go start working here shortly... everyone else is finally getting in to the office, now... it's only 20 after 8... I've been here for 35 minutes already!

And wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :)

Friday, June 13, 2003

Dude! Big Show and Brock Lesner off the top(ish) rope, and the ring collapses! Though we called it... there's no way those ropes could support almost 900 pounds...

Okay, this is bizarre... I'm looking for articles to link to, and can't find ANY... that's just bizarre... unfortunately, I don't keep track of the wrestling rumor sites, so I don't even know where to start looking other than google... :)

Anyways, dunno what our plans are for tonight, at the moment... waiting to hear from Thor and Cindy about how Thor is doing... hopefully well! :) Tomorrow night is game, and, again, hopefully Thor will be feeling okay...

Not much else to report, at the moment... just working, and being glad it's Friday!

Hmmm... I forgot to post this morning... how weird! :)

Not that I had much of anything exciting to say, really... I was thinking earlier today that tonight must be wrestling night, but I was wrong... that's tomorrow night... it's weird, though, because we didn't really watch much of Raw on Monday night... just the Mick Foley / Triple H match, which ROCKED... but then again, I'm a huge Mick Foley fan... :) He's absolutely nuts... and you have to respect that in a wrestler... :)

So yeah, last night was lots of chatting, until my damn computer just absolutely refused to get back online... it's actually the phone line that has problems... never works right when it rains... so I had been warning people all night that I might just disappear and not come back... but that was the fault of the phone line, not them... :)

And I've been trying to watch "Romeo+Juliet" while I go to sleep, but I keep falling asleep... *sigh*... I also get the sense that it might be similar to "Fight Club" in the disjointed-ness of the sound, cuz I wasn't able to get to sleep solidly until it was turned off...

Anyways... yeah... gotta figure out when I want to take my vacation this summer... and got to figure out if we're gonna go somewhere, or just stay in town... last summer, I stayed in town for my vacation (all except the day when I went to St. Louis to see TMBG)... and that was fun... but I also had a lot of stuff to get done that week... this summer, I probably won't have much to do... so going somewhere is a definite option...

I'd say New Orleans, but I really don't wanna deal with the heat... New Orleans is better in the spring, or maybe the fall... I wish SIU still closed for the week of Halloween... cuz that would rock if we could go to New Orleans then... :)

So if we do go anywhere this summer, it's probably gonna be local (as in 2-4 hour drive, probably)... and I don't have any good ideas... *sigh*...

Movie to go out and rent: "Donnie Darko"

We watched it on Sunday night, and it was awesome! :) If you ever want to play a schizophrenic Malkavian, this could be a useful start to your preparations... definitely worth watching, regardless of your character intentions...

So let's see... weekend recap...

Friday night we ended up playing HeroClix, which was a lot of fun... for those who haven't heard of it, it's basically a miniatures game, where the miniatures are based on Marvel (or DC) comic characters... you get to pick characters to use based on their points (and everyone starts with the same number of points)... so I had Jean Grey, Scarlet Witch, and Wolfsbane... except that I had the Rookie Jean Grey, so that she didn't even have Telekinesis... hell, she didn't have any special powers at all! Still, though, I had fun with it... :) Then on Saturday, we of course had to go get some HeroClix of our own... :) We're up to 36 of them now... :)

Saturday game was pretty kewl... MUCH better than last week, though the repercussions may end up sucking greatly... *sigh*... but I'll get over it, I'm sure... :)

Sunday was basically a day for sleeping late, and doing nothing... which was nice... and then I was off yesterday, which was also nice... :) Wrestling was typical, but made good background noise for chit-chat and looking at HeroClix... and then Gabe got to make his character for Karac's Marvel game, which plays tonight... his character ended up pretty kewl, I think... :) Even though I don't know Marvel all that well, I was at least able to give him a couple of ideas... :)

Tuesday, May 20, 2003

Right, wrestling was on last night... and there were six matches or something... I don't really know, because it was more or less a backdrop to everyone chatting about a variety of things (mostly game, of course)... :)

We've been watching "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" before going to sleep lately... if you haven't seen it, you really should. It's an AWESOME movie... very funny, and pretty cute too! :)

Not much else going on, other than the rain... hopefully today will be the last day of rain, however... *crossing fingers*...

Skipping the Friday Five again... it's about music, but I just felt kinda "eh" about it...

Smackdown was good, though Thor noted that even though we get to see more matches on Smackdown, it's the same guys fighting the same guys, over and over...

As for Mr. America... hehehehe... that was kinda kewl... we initially expected Lex Luger, of course... but as the night wore on, we started being a lot more silly about it... Gabe at one point said "I hope it's not the Iron Sheik"... I thought it might be Sergeant Slaughter... at one point, we thought it might be a midget in Uncle Sam get-up... when Vince showed up and Steph was talking to him, I SWEAR she started to say "She is"... so then we thought it might be a transvestite... :) But, in the end, it was good... brother... ;)

Anyways, Jason mentioned that Miss Elizabeth died last night (which is odd, as we were talking about Macho Man last night too)... and Lex Luger got arrested at the same time (and Miss Elizabeth lived with Lex Luger)... so I found a couple of news stories about it. This one from The Charleston Post & Courier is short but good, and this one, from Slam! Sports talks more about her career and such...

In other news, I had a really good End of the Work Week Wisdom, and failed to write it down... if Gabe can remember it, maybe I'll post it later... :)

Tuesday, April 29, 2003

Yeah, I realized I hadn't posted today... I'm still not feeling well, though it doesn't seem to be allergies now... *sigh*...

Wrestling last night was better, mainly because my prediction was almost true... I knew that Bischoff screwing up so much wasn't going to go completely unnoticed... and, as a side note, Linda McMahon rocks... :) And the Hurricane Helms / Chief Morely match was definitely kewl... :)

For tonight, probably more PS2... I won my 2nd match with my character, and then Gabe stomped me when we played each other... 7 under par... ridiculous!

Friday, April 25, 2003

Nah, not doing the Friday Five... sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't...

Smackdown last night was good... though I had found out earlier in the day that Jeff Hardy had been released, because he wanted to be... I did a little more digging around about that this morning, and it seems he wants to work on his music career instead of wrestling... hmmm... sounds kewl, I suppose... I just hope he likes good music, so that he makes good music... :)

Tonight is a Friday without game... whatever will we do? :)

But Saturday should be a super good game... :)

I have a new theory...

Eric Bischoff keeps messing stuff up on Raw... he's "fired" Stone Cold (huh?), J.R., and now Lita... last night there were SIX matches, one of which was a jobber match, and another of which only lasted... oh... 10-15 seconds... I didn't even watch the opening match, finding "All Flesh Must Be Eaten" much more interesting... I didn't really watch the final match either (though that was due to my disappointment that Shawn Michaels was wearing snap-up sweats, rather than the old tiny little shorts he used to wear when ref-ing... :) )...

So my theory is this: it's all an angle... they're having Bischoff do stupid shit, making his show suck, so that someone (dear god, ANYONE) could do a better job than him... and they (they being the McMahon family, in one guise or another) will replace him with someone else...

Please let my theory be right?! Please?!

Friday, April 18, 2003

Nah, I don't feel like doing the Friday Five this week...

Wrestling last night was sooooo much better than Monday! I think that with very few exceptions, most of the wrestlers that I really like are on Smackdown anyway... hopefully Raw will improve though, cuz there's not much lower it can go... *sigh*...

This week, it's two for the price of one on the End of the Work Week Wisdom!

"You who have never committed ritual suicide in your life!"
--from Eric the Viking

"We're world famous in Belgium."
--from Singles

Both from movies that we were thinking about renting the other night, but "Eric the Viking" was out, and "Singles" is pretty silly... :)

No Top 5 Tuesday yet... maybe later...

We finished watching "Soylent Green" in class this morning... it was okay... very clearly dated, but still okay... I don't mind _some_ older movies, even if they do show their age... I've just never been able to get into the "classics," particularly movies from earlier than the 60s... :)

And Gabe finished watching "Ernest Goes to Camp" last night, but I was playing on my computer and doing dishes... I could still picture all of the action, even without watching it... :)

But in more important news... Worst. RAW. Ever. No really... there were like five matches, and only a few of them were somewhat entertaining... the majority of the show was people talking... and while some of that was a little bit amusing, most of it just sucked... I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I hate Bischoff...

I also remembered last night that I hate Kevin Nash, from when he booked himself to beat Goldberg a couple of years ago... and just his booking in general, really... hopefully that won't be a problem in WWE...

Any rate, Smackdown is far better... Stephie rocks! :) Plus, they have Rey Mysterio and Edge... what more could ya want? :)

Starting things off with the Friday Five!

1. What was your most memorable moment from the last week? Hmmm... I guess going out to lunch for my birthday...

2. What one person touched your life this week? Gabe, of course! :)

3. How have you helped someone this week? Ummmm... I helped some girl find the old DEs on microfilm... does that count?

4. What one thing do you need to get done by this time next week? My Garou background... that would be good...

5. What one thing will you do over the next seven days to make your world a better place? Clean the bathroom... that will definitely help... :)

Yeah, okay, so I'm a bit irreverent... isn't that why you love me, though? :)

I don't have any End of the Work Week Wisdom this week... call it a week off, on account of my birthday... :)

I have discovered the evil world that is user created skins for "The Sims"... I got 6 new outfits and 4 or 5 new faces yesterday... I say 4 or 5 new faces because one of the outfits came with a face, but I don't really like it... so I'll probably delete it... :) Got a REALLY nice Armand face and skin though... looks a lot like Antonio Banderas... w00t! :)

Board games tonight, LARP tomorrow, Wrestlemania on Sunday... wow, I'm such a geek... hehehe... :)
